COMFORT & WEIGHT

The first thing you notice when you get the Husqvarna 435 in your hand is that it is very lightweight. It only weighs slightly over 9 pounds which is far less than the average chainsaw.

However, a lightweight chainsaw is not always a good thing. What is more important is that there are elements to reduce the fatigue while still offering good control.

The manufacturers did pay attention to this. They introduce a vibration dampening design, part of which is the highly efficient engine.

A more efficiently running motor shakes less and the materials surrounding it dampen the vibrations further. In short, despite being so lightweight, you won’t be fatigued as quickly because of excess vibrations.

Besides being lightweight, the overall design is also quite compact. This is yet another element that helps the average user maintain control over the chainsaw.

NOTABLE FEATURES

X-Torq Engine

Husqvarna chainsaws are famous for their x-torq engines and that is definitely not missing in the 435 model. This more compact version also features the more fuel-efficient engine.

It also has the clear fuel tank design that everyone prefers. Even though you don’t have to check it very often because it uses up fuel sparingly, you can also drop a quick glance at the fuel levels.

Another advantage of the x-torq engine is that it emits fewer fumes which is great for your own health and the environment. However, the Husqvarna 435 is not CARB-compliant so it is not available for purchase and use in the state of California.

This engine is capable of a max torque of 9000 RPM. As mentioned, this is not a heavy duty chainsaw so don’t feel disappointed by that figure.

9000 RPM is enough to cut through most soft woods and some hard woods in your backyards. You may require a more powerful chainsaw for truly thick hard woods, though.

Centrifugal Air System

Easy maintenance is one of the biggest selling points of the Husqvarna 435. Whereas professionals are generally quite diligent with their tools, the average homeowner mainly wants a reliable power tool that is not too finicky.

One of the reasons why the Husqvarna 435 does not require a lot of maintenance is the centrifugal air system. It gets rid of any debris inside the machine before it even reaches the air filter.

Some pieces may still get stuck on the inside but getting rid of them is no hassle. Simply throw it out whenever you are replacing the air filter – it does not require much more work.

GETTING STARTED WITH THE HUSQVARNA 435

If you have worked with a gas-powered chainsaw before you know the importance of an easy start. This is the area where there are mixed reviews about the Husqvarna 435.

There is an integrated air purge system which always helps with getting a smoother pull start. All you have to do is press the air purge button.

This design also has a smart start feature that is supposed to reduce the force required in a pull start by up to 40%. Yet, there are still complaints about a difficult start.

It appears that some of the starting issues have to do with the way the chainsaw was set up. Those that carefully followed the manual instructions on fuel and oil tend to avoid a difficult start.

A comparison between the Husqvarna 435 and Husqvarna 440 shows that the 440 edition is slightly more powerful. However, there are advantages and disadvantages with both.

Both models have all the standard Husqvarna features that we know and love. This includes the x-torq engine, a clear fuel tank and a vibration dampening design.

As mentioned, the Husqvarna is more powerful but only slightly so. You can’t expect too much of a difference since both chainsaws have the same engine displacement.

The Husqvarna 440 puts out 0.2 kW more power than the Husqvarna 435. It is also more fuel efficient using up 513 g/kWh versus the 652 g/kWh of the 435.

Another difference is the bar length. The Husqvarna is more versatile because it has a maximum length of 18 inches.

The Husqvarna is also more precise because it has felling marks. This is missing from the Husqvarna 435.

When the 453 first came out it did not have the smart start feature which is one of the reasons why many preferred the 440. Since the newer editions of the 435 now also include the smart start and air purge, it is no longer a distinguishing feature between the two models.

All in all, the Husqvarna 435 and Husqvarna 440 are very similar with the 440 having a slight edge in terms of power and versatility. The difference is nearly neglible so users won’t notice all too much difference when working with either one.

In a sense, it is not fair to compare the Husqvarna 435 to the Echo CS-590 Timber Wolf. These two chainsaws belong in two different categories.

On the other hand, if you are looking for versatility, this is an interesting comparison. Should homeowners opt for the more powerful Timber Wolf or is the Husqvarna 435 enough for most lumber projects around the house?

It is undeniable that the Echo chainsaw is the more powerful option. This means that it can better get through hard woods than the Husqvarna.

It also has more variability in its bar length which directly translates to better versatility. In other words, an Echo CS-590 owner is less likely to need a backup chainsaw.

Where the Timber Wolf is less attractive is the issues with its chain. Although the Echo CS-590 gets glowing reviews overall, the chain is one of the more common complaints.

Clearly, they are both excellent chainsaws but the Echo CS-590 still beats the Husqvarna 435. It is simply more powerful, more versatile and in certain aspects also more user-friendly.

PROS & CONS OF THE HUSQVARNA 435

PROS

Being a Husqvarna chainsaws, it comes with all the standard advantages that you are familiar with from the Swedish brand. It has an excellent fuel-efficient engine that releases fewer exhaust fumes and has a clear fuel tank.

An advantage specific to the 435 model is the air filter system. Maintenance is significantly easier because debris cannot even get that far into the machine.

Users are able to remove the largest pieces whenever they replace the filter without a problem. There is no complicated method for performing this routine maintenance chore.

Husqvarna also surprises the market by creating a lightweight chainsaw that does not vibrate as much as you would expect. Despite weighing less than 10 pounds, this chainsaw has enough vibration dampening elements that makes sure the user maintains a good grip and reduced fatigue.

CONS

The main concern with the Husqvarna 435 is the way that it starts. Although it features the signature smart start and an air purge, users still run into starting problems.

This is a curious case because these starting issues are not as common in other Husqvarna chainsaws with the same feature. On the other hand, this may also have to do with the chainsaw setup.

Another disadvantage to note is that it not the most powerful chainsaw out there. As mentioned, Husqvarna did not set out to create a heavy duty chainsaw with the 435 so this can be forgiven.

However, it is important to keep in mind when buying a chainsaw. Remember that the Husqvarna 435 is a great design but it is only suitable for soft woods of a certain thickness – in other words, it could be more versatile.

FINAL VERDICT

Overall, the Husqvarna 435 is a good light duty chainsaw. It should satisfy the needs of the average homeowner.

With this chainsaw you can tackle some standard lumber job with ease. It does not require complicated maintenance and it is user-friendly enough, even for first-time users.

The main drawback to the Husqvarna is that it is not so versatile and powerful as many other Husqvarna chainsaws are known to be. However, this is somewhat of an unfair observation.

When Husqvarna sets out to develop a great heavy duty chainsaw, they really do so. That clearly was not the intent with the Husqvarna 435.

The Husqvarna 435 is a chainsaw designed for the average homeowner, nothing excessive. When looking at it fro that point of view, the Husqvarna 435 is a great chainsaw.
